Overview
A pore is the surface opening of a hair follicle and its oil gland. How large that opening looks is set mostly by genetics and by how much oil the gland produces, and what changes over time is visibility rather than number. Higher oil output widens the opening; sun exposure and age reduce the elasticity of the skin holding it, so it springs back less; and a wider opening collects more shadow, which reads as a darker, larger dot.
This is why pore size is a misleading way to describe the concern. The count does not change, and the opening is not something a treatment closes permanently. What can change is oil output, the condition and thickness of the skin around the opening, and how much shadow it collects. That is also why the same face looks different under different light and in different seasons, and why a photograph taken in one lighting condition is a poor baseline.
Downtime depends on which treatment is chosen, not on the concern itself. Treatments used for the appearance of pores range from sessions with no visible recovery to sessions with two to three days of redness or flaking. Your physician confirms the expected recovery for your own plan before you book.

What if the physician recommends something different from what I asked for?
This happens, and it is worth understanding why. When a physician examines your anatomy in person, they often find that the treatment you arrived expecting is either less suited to your tissue than an alternative, or that the combination you read about online does not match your actual clinical picture.
The recommendation will be explained - not handed to you as a take-it-or-leave-it directive. You will understand the reasoning before anything is agreed. If you have a strong preference for a specific approach, say so; the physician will clarify what the clinical tradeoffs are.
Nothing is performed without your informed consent. If after the consultation you prefer to go elsewhere or think further before proceeding, that is a reasonable outcome.
